Frequently Asked Questions

  • Just under 60 min.

  • I currently offer both. For clients who would like to meet in person, I ask that they sanitize their hands first, and that if they are showing signs of illness, that we meet over video instead or reschedule the session. For those interested in video sessions, I use a HIPPA secure platform that is super user friendly. Research shows that video therapy is just as effective as in person work.

  • Sessions cost $250. You may be eligible for insurance reimbursement depending on your out of network benefits. You may log into your health insurance portal and click “out of network,” then scroll down to outpatient mental (or behavioral) health therapy to see what your plan offers.

  • Yes! I take the following plans: Kaiser, First Choice, and PacificSource.

If your insurance carrier is not listed, your plan may offer out of network benefits; I always encourage prospective clients to look into this as an option by either calling the customer service number on the back of your insurance card or looking up the information on your online insurance portal. For clients who would like to use out of network benefits, I will provide a detailed receipt called a superbill at the end of every session, which has all the information needed for you to submit a claim for reimbursement with your insurance.

  • I do provide a Good Faith Estimate in accordance with federal law, which is an estimate of the cost of care you may need over the course of treatment. Please note that because presenting issues may change, the estimate is also subject to change.

  • The first session is a chance for both of us to meet each other and get a better sense if we would be a good fit. I typically take a few moments at the beginning to review some important things, such as confidentiality and practice policies, then offer clients a chance to ask any questions. After that I allow clients to share what brings them here so I can get a good idea of how I may be able to help. I will listen at a deep level, weaving in some assessment questions, share my thoughts of what I think is going on, then collaborate with clients to form a basic plan of care so they know what to expect in future sessions.

  • As a Master’s level clinician I am not able to prescribe medication. Some mental health issues can be helped with medications; I am happy to provide referrals for psychiatric specialists and coordinate care with your prescriber. Research shows that for many conditions, medication alone is not nearly as effective as incorporating mental health therapy. While medications can help stabilize biology, therapy offers practical tools, helpful perspectives, and a healing, supportive relationship so clients can effectively manage their mental health from several fronts.

  • Many of the clients I see are fairly normal people who are just having a hard time getting through something difficult and need extra support than what their own resources have been able to adequately provide. While there are often many outside variables that may contribute to outcomes which make it hard to guarantee success, I have found that clients who show up, are honest, and put forth some effort into reaching their goals can get to a better place. While I commit to meeting clients where they are at, it is my goal to work myself out of a job so you can get on with your life. You will know therapy is working for you when you do not feel the need to be seen as often and are starting to experience more peace in life, not primarily because circumstances are changing, but because you are growing and changing on the inside.
